HIPAA Compliance & Confidentiality

3 Bridges makes every effort to select the most qualified sign language interpreters for your request.  We only employ state and nationally certified interpreters who are trained, tested and certified by government and professional organizations.  Maintaining HIPAA Compliance and the Interpreter Professional Code of Conduct is our highest priority.

HIPAA & Confidentiality Standards
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requires that care be taken to protect patient privacy, including governing how health care record and other individually identifiable patient information is transmitted, whether on paper, by computer or orally.  Strict adherence to the standard of confidential communication is emphasized and enforced.

Interpreter Professional Code of Conduct
We strive to work with interpreters who strictly adhere to the Professional Code of Conduct set forth by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, (RID) and co-authored by the National Association of the Deaf, (NAD).  These seven tenets are the standards of our profession.

  1. Interpreters adhere to standards of confidential communication.
  2. Interpreters possess the professional skills and knowledge required for the specific interpreting situation.
  3. Interpreters conduct themselves in a manner appropriate to the specific interpreting situation.
  4. Interpreters demonstrate respect for consumers
  5. Interpreters demonstrate respect for colleagues, interns, and students of the profession.
  6. Interpreters maintain ethical business practices.
  7. Interpreters engage in professional development.
